This workshop focuses on the administration of U.S. federally mandated leave programs as well as common leave challenges in independent schools. Participants will learn about the requirements for and interaction between different forms of federally protected employee leave including the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), workers’ compensation leave and USERRA and how these may interact with common state leave programs. Participants will also discuss best practices for administering leave in an independent school, including both the unique federal rules for 10 month employees and the complexity of leave in an environment where in-person interactions are necessary and expected.
