Wage and Hour Boot Camp

This one-week intensive class presents the basics of wage and hour law in the United States and expands upon the complexities of legal compliance in a school setting. This course includes asynchronous instruction available daily through videos, reading and discussion boards, as well as a live one-hour question and answer session all participants are invited to join on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. ET. Participants should plan to reserve 1-2 hours daily for the course in order to maximize learning.

This course is being offered in partnership between NBOA and One Schoolhouse.

Course Schedule

Week 1

Wage and Hour

Participants will discuss federal wage laws such as the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), contracting employees and standard pay practices, including requirements for overtime and lump-sum salaries, as well as discuss specific school positions that are often difficult to assess for FLSA such as coaches, dorm parents, and the head's executive assistant. They will also learn about on-call rules and other issues unique to independent schools. Participants are invited to join in a live hour-long study session on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. ET when participants will walk through case studies with the instructor.
