New School Safety Guide from CISA

Apr 21, 2023, 11:04 AM

(from EdSpaces) The third edition of the K-12 School Security Guide, created by the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), is designed to help K-12 schools and districts adopt a systems-based approach to school physical security planning and implementation. The guide presents five key themes that demonstrate how a systems-based approach to layered physical security can help create safer environments for schools:

  • There is no one-size-fits-all approach to school security.
  • A systems-based approach can help ensure security measures compliment each other and are suitable to context.
  • A layered approach helps prevent single points of failure and encourages integration of efforts.
  • A systems-based approach considers technology, personnel, training, policies and procedures together.
  • The school security team should have diverse stakeholders representing different perspectives.
