(From K-12 Dive) As extreme weather increasingly disrupts learning, NWEA, a K-12 assessment and research organization, released guidelines to help schools prepare and recover from severe weather events. The guidelines urge schools to take the following actions:
- Develop a recovery plan before weather-related damages occur, and understand the most likely climate hazards their communities could face.
- Build relationships with community organizations ahead of time.
- When schools reopen after a disaster, reestablish school norms and daily rituals as soon as possible to help students recover.
- Prioritize the unmet needs of their school communities and address student trauma and teacher well-being.
