(From Education Week) A school district in Colorado is adopting a diversified approach to sustain cost-effective tutoring for its students after federal learning-recovery support expires next year. The new program matches students with specialized providers and compensates tutors based on student progress. High-dose tutoring, involving small groups of students and lasting 30 minutes or more, is effective but underutilized.
(From The74) Florida's Duval County Schools initiated an outcomes-based tutoring program involving 450 eighth graders who were behind in math. By the end of April, almost half of these students had improved enough to skip a second year of lower-level math. The district partnered with FEV Tutor, an online tutoring company that had the potential to earn up to $750 per student based on progress, incentivizing improved outcomes. While outcomes-based contracting is a significant shift in education, it's not the only approach. Some districts are still navigating the challenges, such as attendance tracking and communication with families, to make these arrangements successful.
