(From K-12 Dive) Following another surge in school shootings in 2022, safety professionals have observed a simultaneous rise in spontaneous purchases of security measures, plans and policies on the part of school leadership — partly in response to more school safety products and solutions on the market. Experts point out three school safety trends schools look out for:
- The promotion of unverified safety products, including transparent backpack requirements and safe rooms.
- Pushback against evidence-based approaches such as social-emotional learning.
- Increase in "all hands on deck" strategies — including but not limited to safety tip lines, teacher training and partnerships with other players in the school’s broader community.
