Covering the pandemic era, the report reveals a steep rise in funding deficits for public school buildings and grounds: from $46 billion in 2016 to $85 billion in 2021, and now approaching $90 billion. Rising construction costs, expanding building inventories and aging facilities needing modernization or replacement are driving this trend.
