NY Anti-Bullying Law Extends to Off-Campus

(from Venable LLP) On October 23, 2025, New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed into law the Jack Reid Law. Accordingly, New York independent schools will need to adhere to additional requirements as part of their effort to protect students from bullying and harassment. The law prohibits harassment or bullying that occurs at school or during a school function, and also conduct that occurs off campus and away from school activities, which could also fall within the ambit of the Jack Reid Law and be subject to an independent school’s policies.
