A new Inside Higher Ed report explores how unclear COA disclosures and unexpected expenses — meal plans, tech fees, housing — impact students. Drawing on surveys, research, and interviews, it finds only 27% of undergraduates fully understand COA, and even a $100 surprise can threaten enrollment. The report urges colleges to improve COA accuracy, expand emergency aid and communicate costs more clearly.
