Inflation Reduction Act's Impact on Benefit Plans

Aug 23, 2022, 9:03 AM

(from Bolton) On Tuesday, August 16, 2022, President Biden signed into law the Inflation Reduction Act, which will likely have indirect impact to employer health plans. These include:

  • Section 11408 allows high deductible health plans (HDHPs) to waive the deductible for “selected insulin products” without jeopardizing the ability to contribute to a health savings account (HSA).
  • Section 10301 provides billions for “funding the Internal Revenue Service and improving taxpayer compliance,” which some suspect may lead to more retirement plan audits.
