(from CLA) GoFundMe created over one million donation pages for nonprofits using publicly available data, including logos and branding, without prior consent from the organizations. Many nonprofits raised concerns about unauthorized use of logos, outdated information, potential reputational harm, lack of donor data sharing, impacts on search engine optimization, and the default fees GoFundMe adds to donations.
In response, GoFundMe announced it will remove logos from unclaimed pages, disable tipping until pages are claimed, and give nonprofits control over branding and SEO settings. Nonprofits still have to take the step to deactivate a site they did not create in the first place.
