The Will J. Hancock Unsung Hero Award is given to business officers who have made extraordinary contributions to their schools and exemplify exceptional integrity, knowledge and motivation. At the end of each school year, new Unsung Heroes receive their award from their head of school, often at a significant school occasion such as a board meeting or an all-school ceremony. What makes these Unsung Heroes so special? The highlights below come straight from their colleagues' nominations.

Title: Chief Financial Officer
School: All Saints' Episcopal School of Fort Worth, Fort Worth, Texas
Years in Position: 5
Years in an independent school business office: 5

Superpower: Conservationist: In her role as CFO, Grimmer also oversees facilities management for the school’s 147-acre campus, which includes extensive native Texas prairie grasslands and creek beds. Grimmer displays “knowledge, patience and determination” in wise wildlife and plant management, according to Head of School Thaddeus Bird. Grimmer “is a remarkable steward of all our resources, from people, funding and plant development,” he noted.

Jump starter: Coming to All Saints’ Episcopal following a successful career in both for-profit and nonprofit institutions, Grimmer “quickly proved to be a valuable asset, nimbly adapting to many different circumstances, and adding great camaraderie, confidentiality and strategic thinking to her team.”

Construction pro: When Grimmer arrived at the school five years ago, she took over the reins on a major capital construction project, bridging a retiring project manager and controller. When she retires, she plans to continue working on a part-time basis managing the school’s construction projects.

Exceedingly cheerful: “No matter the task, no matter the time, nor with whom she must tackle the assignment, Becky is always there, [and more often than not], exceedingly cheerful!”

Many hats: In addition to her role as CFO, Grimmer oversees facilities, life-safety and human resources duties. She also serves on the school’s finance and investment committee and endowment foundation committee.
