For any NBOA member school that is not currently a participant in the Independent School Group Life and Disability Insurance Trust (IS/IT) for group Long Term Disability insurance, ISM will guarantee a 10% minimum rate reduction off your school's in-force group LTD plan*.

It is ISM's experience that more than 95% of all schools have acceptable LTD plan designs. In order to be eligible for this discount, the school must not have been a member of IS/IT in the preceding 12 months. ISM Life/AD&D Offer

For any NBOA member school that newly places group Life/AD&D insurance as a companion coverage to its group LTD insurance plan through the Independent School Group Life and Disability Insurance Trust (IS/IT), ISM guarantees to reduce the school's in-force Life/AD&D plan rate by a minimum of 10%**.

**This guarantee is subject to a school's in-force Life/AD&D plan design being deemed acceptable by the underwriters of the Trust. Points to Consider

How accommodating is your school's LTD plan when it comes to partial disability claims?

  • The ISM Trust plan considers excess hours for key administrators who regularly work 40+hours per week. Under most other LTD plans, hours in excess of 40 hours per week are not considered, meaning that the claimant would have to reduce to less than 32 hours a week (80% of his/her normal work week) in order to receive partial disability benefits.
  • The ISM Trust Plan's definition of "disability" allows for benefits to be paid to a disabled employee for either loss of earnings, or loss of the material duties of one's own occupation. Other LTD plans require both loss of earnings and loss of duties of one's own occupation. Under the Trust Plan, the employee can qualify for disability benefits because of loss of earnings even though the employee is still considered to be full-time equivalent. The result is the employee's getting closer to being financially whole.
  • Under the ISM?Trust Plan the definition of "gainful employment" is 80%. Most other LTD plans set the gainful?employment bar at lower than 60%. The ISM?Trust Plan allows a disabled employee to earn an additional 20% of pre-disability earnings during the "any occupation" period—and still be benefit eligible.

  • The ISM Trust's Voluntary Supplemental Life plan allows your faculty, staff, and administrators to purchase up to $100,000 of additional coverage with no medical underwriting, as well as coverage for their spouse and children.
