With the return to school -- whatever it may look like -- looming, resilient leaders are proactively managing their school’s response in an increasingly complex environment. Venable LLP partner and NBOA’s legal counsel, Grace Lee, and associate, Janice Gregerson, will join NBOA's chief learning officer, Jennifer Hillen, for an overview of the latest legal, human resources, legislative, business and operational issues impacting independent schools through the COVID-19 pandemic. This live community meeting will offer just-in-time answers to frequently asked questions and a pulse check on the decisions school leaders are making and implications schools are facing.

Janice P. Gregerson, Associate, Venable LLP
Janice Gregerson focuses her practice on employment counseling and independent school law. Janice represents a variety of clients, with a primary focus on independent schools. She works collaboratively with her clients, actively joining their teams to ensure she is intimately familiar with each organization's operations, mission, and environment. Janice advises independent schools nationwide and understands their unique challenges. She helps independent schools respond to current legal issues and proactively identify potential problems before they arise.
Jennifer Hillen, Chief Learning Officer, NBOA
Jennifer Osland Hillen, CPA, CGMA, is NBOA's chief learning officer. She serves as a strategic partner to the president and CEO and leads the staff team charged with delivering the association’s broad and diverse portfolio of programs, industry guidance, and resources to members and constituents across multiple delivery channels. She serves the NBOA Board of Directors’ Diversity, Equity & Inclusion task force and leads NBOA’s volunteer Business Officers Council, in addition to serving as a content expert on finance, accounting, tax, and other independent school business, operations, governance, and legal matters independent school practitioner matters. Hillen also serves on the teaching faculty for the Master of Education in Independent School Leadership program at Vanderbilt University’s Department of Leadership, Policy & Organizations at Peabody College. She came to NBOA in early 2017 after eight years at Harpeth Hall School, where she served as the associate director of finance and operations, following prior service as controller and manager of accounting. Before joining Harpeth Hall, Hillen was a lead senior auditor with Ernst & Young, LLP, a Big 4 public accounting firm. She is involved in governance, fiduciary leadership, donor stewardship, and strategic financial planning and analysis in her role as a board member for several nonprofit organizations, including the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, Renewal House, and the Junior League of Nashville, of which she is an immediate past president.
Grace Lee, Partner, Venable LLP
Grace H. Lee is a partner at Venable LLP where she provides legal counsel and strategic guidance to independent schools on a broad range of legal issues including employee relations, student discipline, and accommodation issues, safety and risk management, enrollment contracts, handbooks and policies, abuse prevention and investigations, board governance, and compliance with an ever-changing legal landscape. Grace works collaboratively with business officers, board members, human resources professionals, and heads of schools to advance the mission, priorities, and culture of institutions while meeting business needs and mitigating potential liability. Grace serves as legal counsel to the National Business Officers Association (NBOA) and previously served as NBOA's vice president, legal affairs.
NBOA is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit.
