Mary Kay Markunas

Mary Kay Markunas

Mary Kay Markunas currently serves as director, research and member resources at NBOA, and has over 24 years of experience supporting management teams in independent schools and Fortune 100 companies. She manages all of NBOA's research efforts and surveys, as well as other online resources. Prior to joining NBOA, Markunas served for 12 years as the director of finance and operations at The Avery Coonley School. She holds a B.S. from Purdue University and an MBA from the University of Michigan.

Jennifer Hillen

Jennifer Hillen

Jennifer Osland Hillen, CPA, CGMA, is NBOA's vice president, professional development and business affairs. She leads the development and delivery of professional development programs and serves as a content expert on finance, accounting, tax and other independent school practitioner matters. She also serves as liaison to the controller community and NBOA member accounting and audit firms. Hillen came to NBOA in early 2017 after eight years at Harpeth Hall School, where she served as the associate director of finance and operations, following prior service as controller and manager of accounting. Before joining Harpeth Hall, Hillen was a lead senior auditor with Ernst & Young, LLP, a Big 4 public accounting firm. She is involved in donor stewardship and gift reporting in her role as a board member for several nonprofit organizations, including the Junior League of Nashville, of which she is currently serving as president.

Learn to be a good steward of your school's financial resources, regardless of your proximity to the balance sheet, this summer in NBOA's Essentials of School Business for Non-Business Administrators: Budget Meets Mission online course. Specifically designed for school leaders outside of the business office or with limited experience in financial and business functions, the course will teach participants to be strategic in light of financial pressure, and to work more collaboratively with their leadership team around financial issues.
