The past few years have been stressful on many fronts, and they have taken a toll on many adults’ mental health. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the percentage of Americans aged 18 to 44 who are seeking mental health assistance has increased 5% since 2019, and schools are reporting that they are experiencing a marked increase in requested mental health accommodations. Schools have also noted challenges related to interpersonal conflicts and performance management, which may be attributable to increased personal stressors. Join NBOA’s volunteer Human Resources Council and Grace H. Lee, NBOA’s legal counsel, as they discuss how these challenges have been addressed at independent schools, as well as best practices related to ADA requests and employee privacy. Discover strategies to mitigate external stress on school personnel, minimize legal risks, and enhance community support for faculty and staff.

Presented by volunteers from NBOA's Human Resources Council

Learning Objectives: Participants will gain insights into ADA-required accommodations for employee mental health, medical privacy protections, and real-world examples from schools addressing faculty and staff mental health needs.
