Independent schools are starting to look more seriously at issues surrounding socioeconomic status (SES) among their students and seeking ways to address them. Marlborough School has invested time and resources to identify SES issues through student feedback, and one of the primary SES areas that surfaced was food service. Learn about Marlborough’s process to investigate SES concerns, and complications and benefits in their efforts.

Learning Objectives: Participants will learn one model for evaluating the impact of students' socioeconomic status on their social and educational experience at their school, and some of the complications that arise as you attempt to address those impacts.

John Amussen has over three decades of experience as a financial executive in Los Angeles. He spent nearly two decades in film industry finance, working for Columbia Pictures, Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox. In 2015, he transitioned to independent school finance, taking the position of chief operating & financial officer at Milken Community Schools in Los Angeles. In 2019 Amussen joined Marlborough as their Controller and Business Office Manager. He was born in New York City, attended high school in Minneapolis and received an A.B. in American Civilization from Brown University. He holds an MBA from the Anderson School of Business at UCLA.
