Your school has standard processes for hiring, payroll, performance management and many other personnel-related functions. They were designed to support the school's needs based upon both its structure and community values. These processes must also be responsive to changes in the school's environment and strategic goals, but the necessary adjustments aren't always easy to identify. It can be helpful to consult with peer schools to discover elements that may improve your HR operations and regulatory compliance. Join NBOA's Human Resources Council members for a discussion of the processes in place at their schools, reasoning behind the processes, and insight on adapting processes to your school's unique needs.

Amber Stockham, SPHR, is NBOA’s director, human resources and programs, and has over 15 years of human resources experience. She leads the development and delivery of human resources programs and serves as the expert on regulatory compliance, talent acquisition and management, organizational planning, and compensation and benefits at independent schools. Stockham came to NBOA after six years at Miss Hall’s School, an independent day/boarding school for girls in Massachusetts, where she served as the director of human resources. Before joining Miss Hall’s School, she worked in a variety of industries, including social services and manufacturing. She holds a B.A. in social sciences and psychology from Bard College.
