Stephen Lawrence is an accounting and auditing professional with over 15 years’ experience in government and corporate auditing, and not-for-profit accounting. He most recently worked for an elected official in Oakland (California) as the city’s Assistant City Auditor.
His experience includes both corporate and federal government auditing where he worked for the Government Accountability Office in Washington DC and Office of the Inspector General (Labor and Interior) in San Francisco. While in federal government service he was awarded the U.S. Secretary of Labor’s Exceptional Achievement Award twice and an award for outstanding audit work from the Council of Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency.
Stephen is also a former independent school teacher. He taught middle school history at Charlotte Country Day School (North Carolina), and developed and taught the Advanced Placement macro and microeconomics curriculum at The Bishop’s School (La Jolla, California). He currently teaches Accounting and Auditing part-time at different Bay Area universities.
Stephen possesses certifications as a Certified Public Accountant and as a Management Accountant. He holds a BA from the University of Dayton (Ohio), a MBA from Webster University (Missouri) and Master of Science in Forensic Accounting from New England College (New Hampshire).
